Descrição
Decorative covering for the bottom of a mailbox post. This was designed to fit around a metal post that was designed to attach to a 4x4 buried in the ground. Pretty commonly found at Home Depot and Lowes.
Serves 3 purposes:
- Adds a little decoration to an otherwise boring post
- Protects the post from a weed whacker
- Helps protect the base of a post from overexcited dogs with weak bladders
I got tired of looking at the base of the post that had been partially stripped of paint from my weed whacker and was corroding faster than usual from the daily dose of my neighbors' dog urine. I thought about splitting it to make it easier to install, but for me it was just as easy to take off the two bolts that secure the mailbox to the post and the small screw that keeps the top on, and then slide the base down the length of the post. It should be a pretty tight fit, so I'll probably also need to remove/replace the screws securing the post to the 4x4.
I plan to run a bead of silicone along the top to help prevent dripping dog juice from getting between the post and the decorative base.
I'm sure I could add a few more contours to make this more interesting and use a bit less filament. For now I'm wondering how well PETG will hold up for this application. It uses most of a roll of filament.
This model is multicolor and was printed with an XL.
