Telescopic “Tenkara” style fishing poles make great antenna masts for portable ham radio operations, but none of them come with a tip that makes for easy attachment of a wire. Here's a solution to that problem.
First, you'll need a telescopic pole. I like ones ranging from 3.6 to 7.2 m with the 7.2 m poles like this being the most useful and versatile.
I glue the thinnest tip section into the second section in the retracted position to stiffen the second section up. The first section is too thin to be useful on its own anyway, but don't throw it away. Gluing it into the second section adds strength.
Need one that packs down to 16" or so? Consider this option [https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806002781547.html](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806002781547.html)
Not as concerned about collapsed length (32"), but want to shave half the weight? Try this: [https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255800996853190.html](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255800996853190.html)
After gluing the tip section into the second section, measure the new tip diameter and print the pole tip one size up from your measurement. Print using PETG, Nylon, or ABS. You will likely need to clean up and open the gap with a razor blade before use. Glue the tip onto the end of the pole.
Print up a guying ring from my other models if you like, set the pole up, slip the wire into the tip, and get on the air!
