Printing Tips

• Dreidel:
  • 2 exterior perimeters are needed to keep the outer shell looking smooth
  • Using “External Perimeters First” helps with small parts of the first layer and results in a smoother outer shell, but the threads must be printed with interior perimeters first (use a modifier)
    • Smaller dreidels work well with 100% infill
    • Larger dreidels can use 0% infill + a modifier to add 100% infill towards the tip - see the Mega Dreidel project file
    • Play around with infill densities and perimeter counts on the internal portions to find your optimal balance for the best spins - more weight towards the outside and tip is best
    • After printing, I highly recommend sanding the dreidel's tip to smooth out any globs, seams, and layer lines to ensure a good spin
• Handle:
  • The handle should be printed with at least 20% infill so it won't break off easily
    • Using much more infill will make for an unbalanced dreidel that doesn't spin well
    • Some glue is recommended on the dreidel before screwing in the hand
  • A brim is recommended to keep the handle stable on the print bed
• Arachne perimeter generator works best for the screw threads

Mega Dreidel

• Original scale
• Big, chunky, and heavy - not recommended around small kids
• Harder to spin, but satisfyingly dense
• Uses the “Lite” model for a better center of gravity
• 20mm layer heights seem to work best

Mini Dreidel

• Scaled to 60% to match a typical dreidel size
• Much lighter than the Mega
• Easy to spin
• Must be printed at 15mm layer heights or finer so the still threads work (tolerances are tight at this size)

Mega Dreidel - Heavy

• Additional infill modifiers to give the large dreidel a better spin.
