3D model Ultimate QR Code by Maeshmaker on Printables

Description

Hi folks,
QR codes are used in a wide range an can be pretty useful. However, if you want to use a physical one you don't have many choices but printing it on paper. Here comes my relative simple way of creating and 3D printing one yourself, by utilizing the idea of Lithophanes. I will also add a fully parametric and customizable frame (for walls) and a standing case (also fully parametric). This way you can choose the dimensions of your own QR code and make it stand anywhere or hang it on any wall. If you like you can add a colored Logo, like I did, and even an colored Logo and Frame. You have many options to choose on. The QR codes on the pictures will open my prusaprinters.com page.

This print doesn't require a multimaterial kit, it's only using z-colorchanges.

Fell free to let me know what yo think of it and please let me see you version of it.

How To create QR Code with colored Logo

  • Go to [https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/](https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/) and create your own Code (see my settings on the picture).
  • Set add a Link or whatever the QR code is supposed to do.
  • Add a Logo. I'm using the Prusa Logo that I made black white and grey.
  • Customize the design of yor QR code
  • Set the colors of yor Code. Black in this case will be printed with orange filament, grey (#ABABAB) will be black filament and white will be printed in white filament. Note: If you don't want a logo, simply set the Code itself to black instead of grey
  • Download the QR code image (1000x1000 pixel .png is fair enough)

remember to click "create QR code" anytime you make a change in the design to update the gernerated image. Next go to [https://itslitho.com/](https://itslitho.com/) and upload your QR code. Here you can choose the size of your print (See the image for my settings) and whether it will have a colored or black frame. I do suggest to use a frame, if yo want to put it in a antoher frame or case later on. The printed QR code will be held by friction between the frame of the QR code and the case/frame. I'm printing in 0.2 mm Layers so the Min thickness is 0.6, meaning the white base will be 3 layers thick. The Max Thick is set to 1.8 mm so every clor will be exactly 3 layers, which in my experience is the best comprise bewtween thickness and color saturation. At this point you can choose whether your frame is supposed to be black or colored like your logo. Choose a thickness for your frame and with the depth parameter you can elevate the frame to the same level like the logo or the the level of the code.
Finally download the .stl file (0.2 mm per pixel is good enogh for the quality and keeps the file smaller).

Lastly you open the .stl in Prusa Sclic3r and add the colorchanges (see the image or .3mf file for my settings). Sclie and print the QR code.

Frame / Case

Depending on how you are about to use the QR code you can print the universal case or frame. Both are parametric Fsion360 files, so yo can adjust them easily to your needs.

Here are the files:

Open the .f3d in Fusion360 file go to modify> change parameters and customize it. What You need to kow is that I use a tolerance of 0.1mm. Meaning the inlet for the QR code in the frame/case is in x and in y direction 0.1 mm wider than the actual QR code itself. This way they will fit in perfectly togehter and hold by friction. If you want to be safe a just a few drips of superglue.

My Gear and Filaments:

I'm printing on a Prusa Mini with 0.2 mm Layers and a 0.4 mm Nozzle. In this case I'm using only PLA by "Das-Filament" ([https://www.dasfilament.de/](https://www.dasfilament.de/))
