I found that the bookends I had on my shelf would not hold position, or would completely fall over, succumbing to the pressure of the books. I wanted to solve the problem by having a shelf with ends that would clamp down to the shelf itself, yet be easy to reposition in or out.

In my woodworking, I use the Microjig Dovetail system a lot and really like it. My solution, then, was to make a wood base (the length of the actual book shelf) with the dovetail profile routed down the center. My bookends have an integrated key to align the end with the dovetail, and a clamping dovetail key to hold the end in place.

This book end print can be printed without supports on my printer, however you may need to add supports for the knob cutout.
