Panel mount for standard 3-terminal SPDT toggle switch. Replacement for space heater switch or any 20mm OD switch
Made this as a replacement part for a toggle switch that broke on a small space heater. Incorporates a standard small SPDT toggle switch similar to this part: [https://digikey.com/en/products/detail/e-switch/100SP1T1B1M1QEH/378819](https://digikey.com/en/products/detail/e-switch/100SP1T1B1M1QEH/378819)
You can add this to your own project if you need a larger mount for a switch, or more likely if you trying to replace a SPST/DT toggle switch similar to this type, with a 20mm diameter: [https://sparkfun.com/products/11138](https://sparkfun.com/products/11138)
NOTE: Make sure you are using a toggle switch with the correct amperage/voltage rating, and is good quality! I'm using an 8A @ 120V rated switch to replace the previous switch. Especially important if the switch you're replacing is connected to AC wall power. I take no responsibility for any accidents or injuries caused by improper use or wiring.
Printing Instructions:
- Most important: print the nut part at 102-103% size to make sure the threads match. I printed at 0.20mm, but you might want to print finer. These both depend on the accuracy of your printer
- ~20% infill should be fine, you can add additional perimeters and infill if you want to be cautious
- I added snug supports on mine to ensure the overhang was clean, and would recommend it. Make sure to select “support only on build plate”
- I printed in PETG since the switch is going to get quite warm from the heater, you can use PLA or whatever if your application doesn't call for high temperature resistance
- You can also add in a filament swap at the last few layers to have the font in a different color. I just used a white paint pen on mine.
Assembly:
- Slide “mount_nut” part over wires that you plan to solder to switch
- Slide the switch into the hole in the mount, and press to make sure it is seated
- Add on metal washer and nut to secure switch
- Push mount through opposite side of panel
- Solder/crimp wires to switch
- Screw on “mount_nut” to the mount and secure to panel/body.
I'm including the Fusion 360 files in case anybody would like to modify. Thanks!
