I had a pair of "Chicago Cutlery Fusion II 5-Inch Utility Knife" (model #1109960) in my kitchen since 2016. Really liked how the handle feels in hand, blades were pretty good too.
Unfortunately, Chicago Cutlery discontinued this model years ago. And a few months ago, one of two knife's handle broke in half. Turned out that these knifes are not full tang, and the blade is not connected to the handle butt at all. The butt is there mainly for a proper balance and for aesthetics.
I would hate to throw the perfectly usable blade, so instead I printed a replacement handle. It took me a few iterations to get the handle profiles and the internal cavity right, but it turned out nicely.
Printed with PETG with the butt end on the print bed (so the handle is at angle) without supports with 30% infill.
I used J-B Weld Quick Setting Epoxy to attach the blade and the “butt” to the handle in two steps. This epoxy is likely not food-safe, so this knife is in my camping kitchen set (I wash it by hand and never put into a dishwasher, so any contamination is very unlikely).
