Have you ever found an egg just randomly on the ground? I have. It's inconvenient, but it's important to remember that chickens don't automatically lay eggs where you want them to.

To teach chickens to lay in nest boxes, you can use a fake egg. This is a learning tool that can help chickens understand where they should lay their eggs.

To begin, place the fake egg in a nest box. When the chicken sees the egg, she will hopefully conclude that this is a safe place to lay her eggs.

Once the chicken has laid a few eggs in the nest box, you can remove the fake egg. The chicken should continue to lay her eggs in the nest box, even without the fake egg.

But this egg has a flat bottom?

I wanted to design a 3D-printed fake egg that would require no supports and be appealing to chickens. People sometimes use golf balls for this same purpose, so I think a flat bottom will still be okay. ;)
