you can of course modify these settings, my print came out messy but functional.
The idea was to make a ball socket joint that doesn't rely too heavily on perfect tolerances, i was inspired by pin connections which use a circular peg that fits into an octagon hole. Basically i found that the connection was a lot more secure and easy to design for compared to the millimeter specific tolerances required for a perfect circular pin and socket connection.
I wanted to see if that same principle can be applied to the third dimension for ball socket joints. I found FDM printing mechanical parts is tricky due to print variations like warping, inaccuracies on certain axis and so on, i wanted to design something which can work around that and function regardless of variation.
Took me a few tries, i am no engineer, and i don't know the first thing about CAD, didn't use it, just used boolean cuts in a sculpting program and hoped for the best.
But i got something that i found to be acceptable enough to post here, if you find this to be at all useful for any projects you have in mind, commercial or not, feel free to use it, just credit me k? Thanks for checking it out :-)
