If you are like me. you get tired of constantly replacing the coin cell in your Cen-Tech digital calipers. Unfortunately these calipers eat batteries and constantly removing the coin cell was not an option. I looked at other designs that folks have made and decided to give my own design a try.
After looking at how the caliper is designed, I noticed that the access door on the side of the device leads directly to the battery compartment. I'm not sure if this was incorporated to facilitate testing during manufacturing or there was another undisclosed reason for this access door, but either way, I put it to use!
This design allows you to keep your battery installed in your calipers yet give you the option of a hard on/off switch too save your battery. This design allows you to simply insert this print between the bottom of the coin cell and the contact on the inner workings of the circuit board as shown in the photo. By using the .05mm layer height you can easily slide the battery saver in, breaking the circuit without fear of bending the battery contacts. DO NOT FORCE THIS IN, it should slide in quite easily if you have it aimed correctly.
Here are the settings that I used:
- .05mm layer height
- .4 nozzle
- 100% infill
- Rafts: No
- Supports: No
- 3 perimeters
I used PLA, but there is no reason why whatever filament you happen to be using wouldn't work.
