Once in a great while, I have the time to take an afternoon nap.  Unfortunately this somehow encourages other family members to start making more noise when they see dad sleeping in the afternoon!  So as a joke, I created this sign to let others know that I would rather be left alone.  While the design prints well, it obviously has had little positive influence on my nap time.  And of course the dogs can't read so they totally ignore my request for silence when an unsuspecting squirrel walks by a window or worse, when a deer or coyote takes a stroll near the house.  Nonetheless, I am offering this up for others to print.

Additionally, this would make a great birthday or Father's Day gift for a dad you know that enjoys the occasional attempt at an afternoon nap.  The sign, when closed, is approximately 6 ½ inches by 4 ¾ inches (165 mm by 120 mm.)  So this may fit in a standard 5x7 (A-7) envelope used for greeting cards, but it is a little thick.

The idea for the sign came to me from the nights I work late.  I see the cleaning crew put up signs around the halls as they are mopping the floors.  So I created this smaller version to look like one of those caution signs.

The first image is a render in Cinema 4D using Arnold.  The second picture is an actual print.  The last two are renders done in Fusion 360 to show each half.

Printing

This model comes in two parts.  The first part is the front of the sign and the second part is the back.  Both parts are oriented for proper printing, and I made it as big as possible but still fit on the Prusa MK2, MK3 and MK4.  I'm not sure that it can be made smaller for the Prusa Mini because the small pins and holes for the hinge may become too small to print correctly.

Keep in mind that you must have a good first layer and a clean surface.  I used Atomic Filament Perfect Yellow PLA for both parts.  However, I did a filament change in the middle of the print on the front part of the sign and used Atomic Filament Extreme Jet Black PLA, then back to yellow so just the text would be black.  Of course you can print the entire model in yellow and paint the black lettering, but a filament change looked MUCH better.  I guess if you had the MMU (or some other system) you could print the lettering for “QUITE” in red and the rest of the lettering in black, but I like the way it looks with all black lettering.

Assembly 

The two halves snap together and can fold closed or open up.  I included an extruded circle on the back of each part that can be used to glue a small string that attaches to each half.  This would prevent the two halves from opening too far, but I found that it was not needed.  Of course you can use a piece of string if the model will not stay up.

As with most of my models, I designed this for myself but felt that others may enjoy this as well.  And finally, good luck with all of your 3D printing!
