I liked Andre Campos' Modular Drawer design, but wanted to use Zack Freedman’s Gridfinity system, so I merged them.
Gridfinity is a parts/tools storage standard that's become fairly popular. There are plenty of published models, but here's a couple examples:
The connectors now have a “cap” piece that is a tighter fit to prevent them sliding out without risking damaging the shell when installing and removing. The chamfered side of the cap faces in to ease installation.
Added 3 ways to add grids to the top of the drawers:
1. Grid holder connectors - Edited connectors to hold standard grids. Front and back should fit well without spacers. I included spacers for 1 (2 grids), 2 (5 grids), 3 (7 grids), 4 (10grids), or 5 (13 grids) shell wide set. Print 2, one goes on each side. If you need larger, you will have to create you own as they will all be different. The front-back grid count matches the drawers.
2. Inset grid - Shell has a grid built in and surface extruded to match the top of the grid. Use the included edited connectors to keep a flat profile. Supports are required on the grid side.
3. Raised grid - Shell has grid built in. Bins can overhang the edges. Supports are required on the grid side.
The drawers, as is, support a max height of 6.5u. I wanted the extra .5 in case of parts sticking out.
I cut up the original drawer and added RIP_Plo-Koon's light base-plate to it. I then resized the shell and connectors to match (using the same tolerances). I also added versions with hex cutouts to save some filament (about 25% less for the top and bottom version) though they take slightly longer.
I lengthened the connectors a bit, but you'll now need 3 on each corner due to the increased length.
Printing instructions are the same as the original file.
Unfortunately, since the shell was edited, these drawers are not fully compatible with the original drawers. They can still be attached as the connection cross section is unchanged, but all other axes have been altered.
Step files are included for ease of customization.
Non-Grid drawer added per request.
Edit 3/3/23 - Lengthened the connectors to 71.6mm to remove gaps.
Edit 11/17/24 - Added 3 way connector.
Edit 12/20/24 - Added tighter cap for the connectors to help prevent the shells from sliding apart. Also added retro-fit connectors. Just replace 1 connector piece with that and the cap.
Edit 1/11/25 - Added ways to grids to the top of the drawers.
