This is a fun variation of chess that can be easily assembled and transported.
Print Setting Recommendations
Layer height: 0.15mm
Wall thickness: 0.08mm
Infill: 15%
Print support: On, 60%
Assembly Instructions:
Print 3 of the lower levels
Print 1 of the upper level
Use a black marker to color the squares in a checkerboard pattern. Make sure to have alternating colors in the vertical direction (see cover photo for reference).
Once the squares are correctly marked, assemble the board using the pins and holes.
Basic 3D Chess Rules
- Piece setup
- The pieces are arranged according to the set up in the second image
- All movement for pieces is the same for most pieces, the exceptions are as follows:
- Kings cannot castle
- Pawns cannot move two spaces in their first move
- Pawns cannot take other pawns using En Passant
- Pieces can move in all three dimensions following their standard chess rules
- Pieces can only move along one plane at a time
- Pawns can only move in the “forward” direction. Forward and Down for black Forward and Up for white
- Rooks can move in a straight line in any of the three axes
- Bishops can move on any diagonal
- Knights can move in an “L” shape in any dimension.
- Queens can move like a Bishop and a Rook combined
- Kings can move one space in any dimension
- Pawns can get promoted to any other piece (except the king) if they get to the back starting row for the other player
