This shelf bracket arose from a need to store PLA spools and work-in-progress projects in a more organised fashion. Printed in GST3D PLA+, the shelf brackets are carrying a 230mm wide melamine-faced chipboard shelf in my study, and seem to be more than adequate to the task - though your results may vary. You can adjust the supplied OpenSCAD file to generate STLs for larger or smaller shelves, as well as narrower/thicker struts and narrower/wider brackets to arrive at a good balance of strength and print time for your application.
Print them in the orientation supplied, fix them into studs (I used, 4.2mm waffle-head screws; the tapers in plasterboard screws and other woodword screws are bad for splitting layers), pop a small screw through the end to hold your shelf in place, and voila!
The supplied STL is designed for:
- 230mm wide shelving
- 4.2mm diameter wall mounting screws
- 3mm diameter shelf fixing screws
But all these are parameters that can be adjusted in the SCAD file to generate your ideal shelf. For my application they are more than strong enough, but I recommend doing your own testing before loading them up!
