Description
The model is an extension to the Gridfinity system by Zack Freedman. I use simple boxes a lot to store assortments of screws, mechanical parts, and electronic components. They require a lot of grid space, but stacking them makes it harder to access a whole assortment in a lower layer. Therefore I created parameterized trays which can easily be lifted from above by two handles thus lifting a whole row of boxes at once. The trays themselves are stackable.
To minimize the footprint, the handles are only half a unit big each, and boxes inside are shifted by half a unit. That means all Gridfinity items which are stacked on top need half-width profiles, like the tray itself has.
About Filenames
The files are provided in folders by the respective contained height. The tray is 1 height unit taller than that due to its baseplate. If you want to put boxes of 3u height into the tray, chose a contained height of 3.
All exported model files are called something like tray-v1-4l-1w-3h.step, which can be interpreted as:
- v2: Version 2 of the model.
- 4l: The baseplate is 4 units long (from handle to handle).
- 1w: The baseplate and the handles are 1 unit wide.
- 3h: The contained height is 3 height units.
If you need other configurations which are not provided yet, please let me know.
Recommended Print Settings
- Layer Height: 0.2mm (0.4mm Nozzle) / 0.3mm (0.6 mm Nozzle)
- Infill: 10% (I do not recommend to use adaptive infill like lightning, because a lower center of mass of the tray is better for stability).
- Top/Bottom Solid Layers: 3 (0.4mm Nozzle) / 2 (0.6mm Nozzle)
The containers shown in the photos are the Gridfinity Half Boxes up to 3 grids long and 6u high (6u) and based on the Gridfinity OpenSCAD Model (3u).
Changelog
Update 2025-01-11: There was an error in the “baseplate” tray profiles used by the v1 models. Please use the updated v2 print files. The old profile was too tight to fit inserted bins, in particular for larger models.
