🧩 The Puzzle

The Tetrahex puzzle is a versatile brain teaser based on a grid of equilateral hexagons.

It consists of 10 puzzle pieces and a slider box with a snap-in mechanism. In addition to the box shape, many other shapes can be built.

The puzzle has a moderate level of difficulty. In the shape defined by the puzzle box, it has 12,990 distinct solutions and can be solved with some patience.

More challenging is the snowflake shape shown above. It has only 167 solutions.

🛠 Print Settings

The exact settings are not critical — your standard print profile should work fine. The external dimensions of the box are 142 × 124 × 11.5 mm.

I printed the puzzle with the following settings:

• Material: PLA

• Layer height: 0.2 mm

• Infill: 15%

• No supports

• No raft, no brim

The puzzle pieces are used on both sides.

⚙ Fitting Adjustments

• Lid Fit: If the printed lid jams or is too tight, reprint it with its width reduced by 0.1 mm or 0.2 mm in your slicer.

• Snap-In Mechanism: If the lid is too hard to close, file or sand it down slightly using a nail file or sandpaper until it clicks in smoothly. If the snap-in mechanism is not tight enough, you can print the lid 0.1mm or 0.2 mm wider.

• Pro Tip for Perfect Tiles: For a "factory-finish" look on both sides, print two half-thickness pieces (sink them 2.0 mm into the build plate in your slicer), mirror one set, and glue them together.
