Update 15.01.2023

  • Added second spool spacer, now there is a 60mm and a 50mm model. The 60mm is for refill packs bigger than ~850g (depends on the material), 50mm for smaller refill packs. Choosing the right spacer prevents the filament from sitting loose.
  • Reduced thickness of spacers to 1.2mm to reduce the total of inner diameter
  • Upated the spool screw to work with both 50, and 60mm spacer

Description

Turn an empty prusament spool into a masterspool. The two halfs of the prusament spool are held together by a 3D printed screw and hexnut.

Tested Refill packages

3DJake ecoPLA 700g (tested with 60mm spacer)

This package is shipped in a non-vacuumed bag. The filament is hold together with zip ties

I attached the inner end with duct tape to the spool

Then I screwed on the second half of the spool and cut off the zip ties

Summary: The prusament spool hold originally 1000g PLA and thus the 700g package sits a bit loose. I'd recommend the 50mm spacer for this refill package.

eSUN PETG 1000g

The package is shipped in a vacuum sealed bag. The filament is zipped to a carton roll which is hard to remove. 

The diameter of the carton roll is too small to fit on the prusament spool. I had to cut some layers off the carton in order to push it on the spool. 

Summary: The spacer is not required for this refill package because the filament is shipped on a carton roll. It's a bit cumbersome to push the carton roll into the prusament spool. It works, but it's not perfect. However, the filament sits quite tight on the spool and it does the job.

Fiberlogy PETG 850g 

Package is shipped in a vacuum sealed bag. The filament is hold together with zip ties.

It fits perfectly on the 50mm spacer. I attached the inner end of the filament with tape to the spacer.

I removed the zip ties once the spool was screwed together.

Summary: Matches perfectly with the 50mm spacer and is easy to assemble.
