A drop-in replacement for the watch band retainer loop from a Fitbit Charge HR, modeled using measurements from original part. Metal clasp must be removed temporarily to install this part.

To install this you need to remove the metal clasp from the fitbit. To do this, you need to compress the "watch spring bar / spring pin" -- this is a spring-loaded rod that works just like a common toilet paper holder. Use a fingernail or small screwdriver in one of the grooves at the end of the rod to compress the rod's internal spring, and it should come out easily. Take care not to bend the rod!

Install the replacement band taking care to orient the bump inside the loop so that it will face your wrist / in the same direction that the heart rate sensor faces when you are wearing your fitbit.

After that, reinstall the clasp (requires a bit of dexterity, but not difficult).

How I Designed This

Modeled in OpenSCAD using measurements from the broken part. This was a very satisfying build -- it works just as well as the original loop and is more comfortable than the rubber O-ring I had been using. Makes me very happy to know that an otherwise functional device will be spared the landfill for a few more years.
