Descrição
Simple Avocado seed starter which fits ordinary cups, mugs or glasses. Eat the Avocado, clean the seed (peeling the brown layer is possible, but not necessary) and put into the printed seed starter. Hang the starter into a cup or glass, fill it with water such that roughly a third of the seed is submerged and place it in a well-lit spot. Now you need to be patient: You may have to wait several weeks to months before the plant begins to grow. Regularly check water level and cleanliness.
Versions
Three different models with different arm counts are provided (3, 5, or 8). The lower the arm count, the quicker the print, at the expense of larger bridging distances. The 3-arm version has bridges of roughly 3.5 cm, which probably needs some rework with a deburring tool. As this is not a decorative item you might find that acceptable. The 5-arm version has bridges of roughly 2 cm, the 8-arm version has 1.3 cm bridges.
Print tips
Print with your favorite material and settings. The following points might be helpful:
- PLA works fine.
- Prints without supports.
- I recommend a wall count of 4 when printing with a line width of 0.4 mm such that the arms don't need infill.
- The models contain bridges. The more arms, the shorter the bridging distance.
- 3-arm version prints in ~1h15
Design goals
- no floater (thus no watertight printing needed)
- fit cups and glasses in my household
- fit small and large Avocado seeds
- fast print time
- no supports
