I bought a "Helping Hand Jig" from Harbor Freight* a while back, and although the price was right and it's been a great help with my soldering, I was disappointed that it tips over so easily.
The first picture in this listing shows the original cast iron base along side the new base I made. The original base, though heavy, is very easy to tip over. The new printed base is light weight, yet you have to really work at it to make it tip over.
I sized all of the parts so that they only need to be "Pressed Fit" together, but if you're worried about them coming apart, just use a little super glue during assembly.
I included 3-Posts, since I tend to misplace, break, or damage them with daily use.
This new base works great for me, I hope it's useful to you.
