As soon as I saw hirez99's "Spool drawer", I thought of several uses for it. But I don't even know what size his Tesla spools are, andmy spools are all different sizes. So obviously a customizable one would be really helpful.
I figure other people will think the same way. This is probably usable now...
I want to save others the legwork I've already done. So I've broken my personal rule by posting something that I haven't even printed yet! I think it will work, but there's still a bit of tidying up to do. The attached STL is just an example of what can be produced.
Still to do:
- Test out stacked drawers and make sure they work.
- A latch to make it stay closed... currently thinking about a small magnet
- A stacker thing to stack multiple spools on top of each other
I welcome any improvements to this design... I'd love this to be a collaborative project. You can email your changes to me (email address is in the file), or message me on TV, or comment on this Thing, or whatever. I'll get back to you in a few days.
Unfortunately, the Customizer on Thingiverse is broken, so you'll need OpenScad on your machine if you want to use it.

This uses tbuser's clip-pin library for the axles. Click a pin through each side of the spool into the hole in the drawer. For stacked drawers, use a double-ended pin between the drawers.
A drill guide is provided to make it easy to drill the holes in the right places. Youwill need to be careful that the holes are aligned exactly opposite each other though.

I've printed a full-height drawer, and it works very well. Despite the fact that my print is very rough due to some calibration issues with my printer.

Increased spool, inner, outer, and hole maximum diameters.
