3D model Parametric Rectangular Pipe with Inner/Outer Rounded Corners by Dan Sabau on Printables

Description

Description

This OpenSCAD script generates a fully custom, hollow rectangular pipe or duct. Because it is completely parametric, you can modify its height, width, length, wall thickness, and corner curvature instantly in the code without needing to redraw anything. It is designed specifically for 3D printing, featuring clean cuts on both ends and geometries optimized for slicing software.

Recommended 3D Printing Settings

For functional, airtight, or sturdy pipes, use these slicing guidelines:

  • Orientation: Print the pipe standing vertically on its end. This eliminates the need for internal supports and results in smooth, seamless interior and exterior walls.

  • Wall Line Count (Perimeters): Set this to at least 3–4 walls. For the best structural strength, your wall thickness in OpenSCAD should ideally be a direct multiple of your nozzle size (e.g., a 1.6mm wall thickness for a 0.4mm nozzle using 4 perimeters).

  • Infill: 15% – 20% is plenty if the walls are thick enough to contain infill. If your wall_thickness is narrow (under 2.5mm), the slicer will likely print it as 100% solid anyway using your wall loops.

  • Adhesion: If the pipe is tall and narrow, it has a small footprint on the build plate. Use a brim (5–10mm wide) in your slicer to prevent the model from tipping over mid-print.

  • Cooling: Enable strong cooling fans for clean corner definitions, especially when using PLA or PETG.
