English Description
I had a very specific problem. I replaced the ceiling lights in my Japanese house with SwitchBot ceiling lights ([https://www.switchbot.jp/products/switchbot-ceiling-light](https://www.switchbot.jp/products/switchbot-ceiling-light)). However, as all smart light users know, I wanted to prevent the light from being easily disconnected from power while keeping the remote in a convenient location. And as any Japanese homeowner knows, it is very difficult to just bypass a switch or install a smart switch. You have to be a licensed electrician to do absolutely anything electrical in your house.
This design replaces a single Showa era toggle switch plate and secures with standard #6-32 screws. The remote slides in over the switch easily and securely. It makes it easy to press buttons on the remote while it is on the wall (the included mount is wobbly). It is also easy to quickly slide it in an out. When inserted, the remote covers the switch such that it cannot be accidentally turned off. However, you can still access it if needed to power cycle the light for maintenance or pairing.
If you had this same extremely specific Japanese smart home problem, here you go!
Print Suggestions
I've printed in both PLA and PETG with good success. The ones in my house are PETG because they are high touch point items.
No matter the orientation, some support will be needed. To minimize the effect of this support on visible surfaces, I tend to print but the bottom of the holder sitting on the plate. However, it prints well with the wall side down or on the chamfered edge if you prefer that layer line orientation aesthetic.
I don't like fuzzy skin personally, but the tolerances allow for it to be used
Recommend at least 3 perimeters and 4 top/bottom surfaces to ensure the screws have plenty of structure to clamp onto.
Generally print with 15% Adaptive Cubic infill at that works well. Any infill pattern you prefer is fine.
Updates
2026-07-03: No Junction Box Versions Added
Added version optimized for directly mounting to the wall. This provides a more stable mount than the one that comes with the lights. Removed features related to fitting over the junction box and switch for easier printing. I use it in a tatami room where the ceiling light is not switched.
There are two "No Junction Box" version.
One with 25 mm mounting hole spacing to match the hole pattern of the mount that comes with the lights for a drop-in replacement.
One with 50 mm hole spacing which is recommended for a generally more stable installation.
