A friend requested this design to remove snails from his aquarium. You put some bait in the inner box and close it with the lid. Weight it down with some pebbles, and put the top on it. Snails can crawl in but (apparently) can’t crawl out. 

I don’t own an aquarium so I haven’t tested it but he said it worked well.
