Spool Holder

This is a sturdy and modular spool holder design with two assembly variants:

1. Heat-set insert version – requires M4 heat-set inserts

2. Pause-and-insert nut version – designed to pause the print and insert standard M4 nuts (I went with this option)

Hardware Required (Nut Version)

• 8× M4 hex nuts

• 8× M4 screws (30 mm length, hex head recommended)

• 4× wheels (I used wheels from a local hardware store that have a base of 50mm x 50mm)

• wooden rod (approx. 22 mm diameter, e.g. broom handle — cut to your desired length)

Optional:

• Wood screws for additional reinforcement (size may vary — test what fits best, or skip entirely)

Print Settings

• Material: PETG (recommended for strength and durability)

• Infill: 22% Gyroid

• Walls: 4 perimeters

• Top/Bottom layers: 5

• Supports: only needed for the bottom arch, all other parts (including holes) print fine without supports

• Part weight: ~150–170 g per piece (depends on slicer and settings)

Notes on Assembly & Tolerances

• There are optional holes for wood screws if you want extra rigidity

• I used screws I had in my garage, so you may need to test which size fits best

• The design should still hold together fine without the wood screws

• A middle support part is included in case you want to make the spool holder longer.
  This helps prevent the rod from flexing and keeps everything stable if you make the base longer.

• Check the photos for proper assembly reference.
  In my current setup I only have two layers assembled (I ran out of filament and left out the middle parts), but the full design supports more sections.
  The wooden rods simply slide into the holes, and everything should fit together nicely.

Important: Print Test Piece First

Included is a test piece with all critical hole sizes from the main model.

     I highly recommend printing this first to:

• Check your printer’s tolerances

• Ensure proper fit for nuts, screws, and rod

This design is meant to be simple, customizable, and easy to source parts for.
The wooden rod lets you adjust the width to fit your needs, and the wheel system keeps spool movement smooth.
