Descrição
HexPanel is a modular front panel system designed to simplify connector mounting on electronics enclosures. Cut one opening in your panel, mount the interface plate, and populate it with hexagonal connector modules. No more per-connector drilling.
How it works
The system consists of three part types:
Interface plate: the main piece that mounts to your enclosure wall. Available in 2×1 to 2×5 hex configurations. Configurations marked with "C" are split into two parts and require junction pieces.
Modules: 80mm point-to-point hexagons that snap onto the interface. Each one accepts a connector through a 35.6×67mm cutout (39.6×68.7mm maximum).
Junctions: used to join two interface halves together.
Interface plates are centrally symmetric, so there's no left/right version to worry about.
Available modules
Standard fit guaranteed:
GX12 / GX16
Keystone (coming soon)
Blank module (recommended as a base for custom cutouts)
Tested but fit not guaranteed depending on your specific hardware:
HDMI
RJ45
USB
C14 power inlet (230V)
230V switch
For any connector not listed, print the blank module and model your own cutout, connector dimensions vary too much to guarantee a universal fit.
Materials to
4× M4 screws with a length = panel thickness + interface thickness* + 2-3mm (for interface mounting)
2× M4 screws 10-12mm per module
4× M4 nuts (interface) + 2× M4 nuts per module
* Interface thickness is 12mm
Assembly
Press-fit the M4 nuts into the interface by placing the nut over the hole and threading a screw from the other side to pull it in. Do not insert nuts in the junction slots.
If using a split interface, join the two halves with the junction pieces.
Place the interface on your panel and mark the mounting holes and cutout area.
Drill the 4 mounting holes and cut the window in your panel.
Mount the interface plate with the 4 long M4 screws and nuts.
Attach modules one by one.
Disclaimers
HexPanel is designed for indoor use in dry environments. It is not suitable for outdoor use, humid environments, or applications involving fluid splashes.
I am not an electrician or any kind of certified professional, just a hobbyist who tinkers and occasionally sees things done in a professional environment, which gives me no particular credibility. I am not familiar with all the regulations in my country, let alone yours, so please double check your local regulations before use.
I would recommend to at least use PETG (no PLA pls) and don't use mains power if you don't know what you are doing. It is not certified for mains use and does not guarantee electrical safety so it can cause serious injury, death, or fire.
This is a personal project built to answer my own needs. I may update it if issues or improvements come up, but no support is guaranteed. Feel free to modify and remix it as you see fit, that's what the CC BY-NC-SA license is for.
