Modelo 3D Magnetic Easter Egg Fidget por PrintsCharming no Printables

Descrição

This Easter themed Fidget is a remix of the Magnetic Fidget Ball by [https://www.printables.com/@Matt_35710](https://www.printables.com/@Matt_35710).  Its printed with PLA and basic PLA settings.  There is a pause built in at layer 20 to insert magnets.

The instructions below are copied from Matt's Fidget Ball page.  Matt suggested adding crazyglue to the holes before placing the magnets, but on my first attempt, in the time it took me to apply glue to the 12 holes and insert the magnets and press down on them, when I resumed printing I had adhesion problems and the nozzle just smeared filament all over the place.  With the pull of the steel plate on the other side of the magnets I decided on my second attempt to forego the glue and just insert and press the magnets down with the back of a screwdriver.  I then tested them by running the tip of the screwdriver over them quickly to see if they would come up.  Three of the magnets came up so I quickly added a small drop of glue inserted them and resumed printing immediately.  I left  the crazyglue in the directions in case any one has an issue with the nozzle grabbing the magnets. As far as polarity, just hold the stack of magnets in one hand and as you take them off flip every other one before inserting into the print.  I began inserting the magnets as soon as the pause began and put them in as quickly as possible.  As an added measure (might not be necessary) I had my heatgun set at 200c and prewarmed up and as I resumed the print, I held the heatgun  approximately 6 inches away from surface of print and heated the last layer.  (If you try this be very careful).

Below are amazon links to the magnets, filament, and crazyglue I used during this print.  I am an affiliate so if you click on them I get a few cent to help supplement my filament habit.

Hardware Required:

  • 12x Neodymium Magnets - 6mm x 3mm (6 magnets are required for each half of the ball).

  • A drop of CA glue (Super Glue).

Magnet Layout (IMPORTANT): To get the satisfying attract/repel action, you must alternate the polarities of the magnets (North-South-North-South) as you place them into the slots. 👉 Please refer to the magnet layout diagram in the image gallery before inserting your magnets!

Printing & Assembly Instructions: The magnets are designed to be completely hidden inside the print.

Bed Surface & First Layer Tips (Smooth vs. Textured PEI): The bottom layer of each printed half becomes the "mating surface"—the flat faces that touch and slide against each other when the ball is assembled.

  • Smooth PEI Recommended: A PEI (Polyetherimide) sheet is a standard printer bed surface known for excellent adhesion. Printing on a smooth PEI sheet is highly recommended because it gives the first layer a perfectly flat, glass-like finish. This allows the two halves to glide against each other effortlessly.

  • Textured PEI Workaround: A textured PEI sheet leaves a stippled, bumpy finish on the plastic. If both halves are bumpy, they will grind against each other, and the tiny gap created by the bumps will noticeably weaken the magnetic pull. If you only own a textured plate, I recommend sanding it smooth with sandpaper.

Below I have linked a short video of the magnets as the filament is being laid down on top of them after the resumption of printing.  Feel free to like and subscribe if you like the video!

On another print I decided to video myself inserting the magnet and the printer covering them up afterwards.

Thanks for checking out this model!  If you print it please like and post a make so I can see what others have done.  I also encourage you to try new things like adding magnets or making changes to designs within prusaslicer.  This was my first attempt at stopping a print and inserting magnets and it wasn't that hard.  I am including a few pictures I took while printing and adding magnets in case it helps..  Its great fun when you can personalize designs with alterations and it also leads to the ability to create and bring to life your own ideas.  Happy Easter!

FYI-  I ran this print very slow even slowing the acceleration controls so if you are a speed demon you may want to make adjustments to the speeds.  Other than that, it prints very well and is a nice introduction to pause and insert in a print.  Enjoy.
