Compatible with the original Gridfinity system by Zack Freedman.

Overview

This is a lightweight and minimal case designed to hold Gridfinity bins.
I created it with the following goals in mind:

  • Ultra-lightweight design

  • Fast printing

  • Simple and clean linear aesthetics

  • Fully parametric

  • Optional transparent window

  • Easy assembly without screws or hardware

  • Ability to build very compact sizes (starting from 1x1x3U)

Although I really appreciated and drew inspiration from  Matthew’s (Modern Gridfinity Case) and Suit’s (Gridfinity Rugged Case "Light" R3) projects, neither of them included all the features I wanted.
So I decided to design my own version from scratch.

Features

  • Two-part design (no window version): only Top and Bottom

  • Window version: includes an additional printed grid frame to hold the transparent sheet

  • Integrated latches: built directly into the Top (no separate parts required)

  • Secure closing mechanism
    ⚠ While the latch holds well, avoid shaking or flipping the case, especially when storing heavy items.

Materials

  • No screws or hardware required.

  • For the window version, use clear binding cover sheets (commonly used for spiral-bound documents). Recommended thickness: 0.3 mm

Print Settings

  • Layer height: 0.20 – 0.32 mm
    (All my prints were made at 0.32 mm without issues.)

  • Infill: 10% (15% for increased strength)

  • No supports required

Assembly

Transparent Cover Version

To install the transparent cover:

  1. Place the lid upside down on a flat surface.

  2. Lay the transparent binding film evenly inside the lid frame.

  3. Press the retaining grid into place until it snaps securely into the lid.

To connect the Lid and Bottom

  1. Insert a piece of filament through the hinge.

  2. Optionally melt the filament ends slightly to prevent it from sliding out.

Adjustment Tip

If the latch feels too loose after printing:

  • Warm it slightly using a hair dryer.

  • Gently press it inward to increase resistance and improve the locking strength.
