Modelo 3D E reader/Phone/Kindle/Kobo stand por Diablo no Printables

Descrição

A small adjustable angle stand for table top use (or any flat surface).Supports a phone or e reader (Kindle, Kobo etc). Folds down to 100x96x12mm (X,Y,Z).  Opened up and in use the base plate occupies a surface space of 100x73mm (X, Y).

There are 3 extra STL files in this set. They are marked as 'DEMO ONLY'. These were created solely for displaying the assembled design in the printables 3d viewer. They were loosely assembled and are in a far smaller scale then the actual print files. Or to put it shortly? Don't print the Demo files.

DESCRIPTION:-

This new stand is smaller by a considerable margin while keeping functionality After shrinking the design I also set about making it use less filament with a number of areas being changed where filament saving could be done without detriment to the stand. I also changed the design from a PIP to a component print. This was done to make printing more reliable, but also to allow for replacing any broken part/s should the need ever arise. Accidents happen. The stand is 100% printable with no additional hardware involved in its structure. A complete print of all parts for this version is around half the time (and a lot less filament)  that the larger version this was inspired by took to print while using the same settings.

There are no requirements for non printed parts. The printed components used for this stand comprise of:-

  • 1 Base plate

  • 1 Face plate

  • 1 Small shelf

  • 1 Locking plate/Angle adjuster

  • 4 small pins/pegs 

  • 2 larger hinge pins/plugs

I initially toyed with the idea of using M3 screws, but ditched that idea after seeing how well the printed pins turned out. I added a shallow base to the small pins stl files to make printing easier as the small footprint of individual pins might be pushing the limits of bed adhesion a little too far. I used side snips to clip the pins from that base after printing.

PRINTING AND ASSEMBLY:-

Everything was printed at 20 percent infill. I have printed this 3 times so far. I printed one stand in PETg with the other two printed in PLA with no unexpected results worth mentioning.

Assembly is straight forward, just take care that you have the shelf and locking plate in the correct orientation before fitting the pins permanently. I've printed this small variant 3 times now without any issues. One I printed with supports, and two without.  Removing supports was a chore so I prefer the non support option. Of those 2, one went perfectly, while the other needed the holes in the frame chasing through with a drill bit (the holes in the frame are set at 3.4mm).  The 4 standard pins I created are 3mm at the tip, 3.2 in the centre and 3.4 at the outer limit so as to fit snug when pressed home and potentially not require glue. If you find these pins (or the hinge pins) too tight, I've included a thinner set of the 6 pins to make life a little easier. The 4 small pins are in 2 lengths (2 long 2 short) so they disappear into the frame accordingly. If you use glue to secure the pins, use it sparingly, just enough at the outside edge to hold them in place. Should you ever break a pin, or any other part of the stand, it will be easier to remove any required pins with minimal effort and print only the parts needed to fix the stand again. When it comes to the pin files themselves, there are 6 files in total. A full set of the standard pins (the pins I used). A full set of slimmer pins in case you find getting the regular pins in situ difficult.  A set of 4 regular pins, a set of 4 thinner pins, a set of 2 regular hinge pins and a final set of slimmer hinge pins. You know your printer better than anyone so select what you prefer. The stand itself needs 4 of the smaller pins and 2 hinge pins. 


NOTES ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE STAND THAT MY VARIANT WAS INSPIRED BY:-

I had a few issues with the stand that this was originally derived from.. But those issues prompted the creation of this file set.  I really wanted a smaller version so I set about changing the design to suit my own needs better.. The BLRM version was a bit hit and miss for me. Potentially it was caused by the old filament roll I was using, but out of three printed, one went fairly well (albeit needing some heavy coaxing to free parts that had bonded together too well), the second failed to free up at the hinge and snapped the print, the third had the locking piece fall out as the print in place pin had snapped (likely another failure while freeing the bond between parts on the PIP version). I'd intended doing a stand for various family members, but with such a low success rate on the larger stand I wasn't willing to carry on with a PIP (print in place) option. It was a fairly long print time and a chunk of filament to waste on every failure. I'm not throwing shade at BLRM here, I liked the design, it just wasn't a good fit for me as it stood.

FINAL THOUGHTS:-

It holds my phone, my kobo and her kindle just fine with the stand set at its high setting. Using the larger e readers could be an issue at the lower angle setting as the device overhangs the top of the stand enough to potentially cause it to want to slip off the ledge the device sits on. As a small pocket sized stand though it does its job well. For me, this stand modification was a one shot deal. I don't currently intend to return to it and do any changes as it works as is. The redesign fulfilled everything I needed from it and at the time of writing,  I cannot see any issues that would warrant any further attention.
