Game Description: "Shift-Stack"
Shift-Stack is a chaotic, gravity-defying balance game designed specifically for the 3D printing community. Unlike traditional stacking games where every block is identical, Shift-Stack blocks look the same on the outside but behave completely differently on the inside.
By varying the internal weight distribution (infill) of each 50x15x15mm piece, players must navigate a tower that is physically "dishonest." One piece might be heavy on the left, while the next is center-balanced, making for a stack that leans and sways in ways that defy visual logic.
The Mechanics of Balance
There are four distinct types of blocks, each with a hidden weight profile:
The Center: Perfectly balanced; the "safe" piece.
The Side: Weighted heavily at one extreme end.
The Half: Weighted through exactly one half of the stick.
The Half-Side: A subtle, tricky weight shift between the center and the edge.
How to Play
The Setup: Players agree on a turn-draw (1, 2, or 3 pieces per turn).
The Goal: Build the tallest, most chaotic tower possible.
The Turn: Players draw their random pieces and must place them on the stack. Because the weights are internal, you have to "feel" the balance as you place it.
The End: The player who causes the tower to collapse loses!
Why it’s a 3D Printing Win
The "Scrap-Slayer": This game is designed to eat up your "end-of-spool" leftovers. The more colors and material types (PLA, PETG, ASA) you use, the more vibrant and unique your set becomes.
Hidden Physics: The game utilizes the unique ability of 3D printing to create variable density. You can print these with high infill at one end and 0% at the other to create the "hidden weight" effect.
Infinite Scalability: Print 10 pieces for a quick coffee-break game, or 100 pieces for a floor-to-ceiling engineering nightmare.
Printing Tips for the Contest
Internal Weight: For the best effect, I recommend printing with 3-4 walls so the internal infill isn't visible through the sides.
The "Secret" Infill: Use "Modifier Blocks" in your slicer to set 80-100% infill on the weighted sides and 0-5% on the empty sides.
You can use whatever infill percentage and variant you like. More dense infill is more noticeable in weight, use it to add variety.
Happy Stacking !
