I used OpenSCAD to carve passages in the base to add strip LEDs and designed a tower that strip LEDs wrap around to make a bright lamp. I have this lamp on my bedside nightstand.
The strip LEDs are attached to the tower by their adhesive back and zip ties. After installing the LED strip in the base I covered the base in Gaffers tape to provide a non-slip base and make sure nothing poked out.
