Many 3D-printed nutcrackers are bulky, rectangular, or visually utilitarian, often consuming far more filament than necessary. I wanted a compact design that looks good even when left out in a bowl of walnuts in the living room, without the typical 3D-printed blocky appearance. By sizing the body so that it fits just one walnut, the most natural solution was to make the nutcracker resemble a walnut itself—resulting in a visually clean object with very low material usage. Then I thought it would be very funny if a walnut cracked other walnuts. So I transferred my design into a walnut body and made this Walnut-Walnut-Cracker.

The interior is hollow, allowing you to place a nut inside and crack it by turning the threaded screw from above. I made the front opening to be quite narrow, so that shell fragments remain mostly inside the chamber, reducing mess and preventing pieces from flying out. The design includes a floating bridge overhang on top of the opening which is angled so it can be just printed cleanly without supports (at least it did on my MK4 with the provided settings). The lower part includes an integrated flat base so you can place it on any surface.

The top features a short shaft containing the internal thread for the screw. The screw itself ends in two curved wings, providing a comfortable grip and efficient leverage when applying pressure. The tip of the screw is slightly concave, providing a stable contact point so the nut cannot slip while pressure is applied.

Printed with 0,2mm structural preset in PLA, 25% 50% infill, 4 perimters, no supports. I used an added part and negative volumes as shown in the Prusaslicer screenshot.

Just added a second file containing a larger screw which should also crack smaller nuts

Update 04.01.2026:
After several kilos of crushed nuts, my nutcracker has found its master 😄
So I adjusted my recommendations for print settings and updated the files.
