Printing & Assembly Instructions
When printing the plate pieces, I highly recommend printing the face you see face down on your build plate. I designed it all so there would be no overhangs in that orientation, and no supports are needed. I haven't experimented with infill, but the usual 4%-12% should work just fine unless you are hanging something seriously heavy on this, which you probably won't (probably). For the hooks just place the hexagon base part flat on the print bed & it also requires no supports.
The wall-mounted plate comes in four pieces. I apologize for my naming convention, but this is how I saved the files; From the bottom left corner to the top right corner, the order of the pieces go:
- Low Base Plate
- Big Base Plate Middle
- Small Base Plate Middle
- Top Base Plate
I assembled my pieces using super glue, however other adhesives like 3Dgoop should work just fine. There is a little bit of clamping you have to do to make sure the alignment is perfect, but if you align the pieces at the notches and the cuts match, it will generally be a good fit. It is to be noted that the notches are not there as structural support but are there purely to align the pieces. Make sure you glue inside the notch holes, but more importantly, glue the mating surfaces.
To mount the assembled plate onto the wall, I used command strips (they are easy to find and very cheap at Walmart, they are also very good if you live in a dorm like me), or alternatively, you can pin/nail through the included holes.
How to Use
When you want to place a hook onto the hexagonal grid, align the piece so the triangular notch on the hexagon aligns with the notch in the honeycomb, push the piece forward into the wall and twist to the right. To take it out of the wall, twist to the left and pull off the wall.
