Use an in-ground worm compost bin in your garden to decompose kitchen scraps and attract worms. Beneficial for all your plants for higher yields and denser nutrients. We use this for all the kitchen scraps that our chickens can't consume, like onions and eggshells. 

Also, I would drill a hole in the finger holes. Just 1/16th of an inch, so the water can drain out of them if it rains or you're just watering your plants.
