This is the third of my puzzle boxes designed to be geocache containers to offer something different to the local geocaching community. This one is is a 3 code design based on binary. Where each number in the code is represented by a 5-bit binary number. the maze type design to internal side panels allows the lid to slide up a little bit more each time the code is solved.
My introduction to this geocache can be found below
The solution to this puzzle box is 9 (01001). then 3 (00011) and finally 27 (11011), all of these solutions can be found in the strings of binary digits on the side of the box. As with some of the previous puzzles this is designed to be able create your own solution if you so wish by customising your own side panels. A blank of the maze template is contained in the printable files but you will need to put the raised parts in the appropriate columns. A raised part (0) on the north panel should correspond to a low part in the mirrored location on the south panel, the switches are long enough to fit between a raised and a low section.
In relation to printing supports will not be necessary, there are large flat surfaces that each part can be printed on without the need for it, however the parts are not always oriented in the correct way when imported into your slicer. In regards to print orientation the base of the box, the top of the lid, and the sides of the switches should be placed on the build surface. Check the fit before assembly as some sanding may be beneficial depending on the tolerance of your printer. I printed this in PETG as I will be using it outside. For assembly I used the following hardware
- 8 x M3 heat set insert
- 4 x M3 x 8 bolt
- 4 x M3 x 40 bolt
