Basic 3D printed tools for making 1"x4" & 1"x6" sugar rockets. Includes 2 inverted nozzle shapes for bentonite clay ramming, 2 chamfered coring tools, and 2 nose cone styles. Intended for use with DIY rocket candy pours. 

Clay Ramming:

I use an ultra fine bentonite clay powder (used for health & beauty mud masks). Ground kitty litter with an epoxy binder is also common for nozzle material.

After creating your nozzle and pouring candy into the mold wait until the temperature is below 100C to insert the coring rod. The coring tool to use depends on the length of the rocket tube. 

• Shorter coring tool for 4" tubes
• Longer coring tool for 6" tubes 

3D Printed Coring Rods:

I am providing some very cheap and quick coring rods. However, in my experience they will snap trying to extract or twist them. 3D printed material simply does not work as coring rods. The nozzle rams work great, the coring rods not good. 

Delrin or POM Coring Rods:

It is better to use ¼" Delrin or POM material for coring rods. The material is similar to teflon. They are so smooth they do not require a lubricant to extract. That is a better idea as lubricant will also add moisture directly to your core. You can find them on Amazon but they will not be tapered like a real coring rod, you can find a way to taper/chamfer the coring rod yourself. Having a lathe and turning your own metal coring tools is optimal but if you had a lathe you wouldn't be 3D printing this stuff. 

Warning:

Sugar Rockets are EXTREMELY hygroscopic. They will start to harden only immediately after a pour. Quickly afterwards, If kept in a high humidity environment it begin to absorb moisture from the air mind-blowingly fast and revert to a liquid state and never fully cure. I live in a state with extreme high humidity. I've watched my propellant turn back into a liquid slurry in as little as 24 hours. This is obviously completely undesirable for solid rocket fuel. If you live in a high humidity environment the only thing you can do is put them in an airtight bag and load it with desiccant. Summer is the worst time to make sugar rockets due to high ambient humidity.

Rocket Motor Casing:

Use 1" (inner diameter) cardboard tubes as they can withstand higher chamber pressures. You can find them readily available online via Amazon or other retail supplier in 1x4 or 1x6 sizes.
