Fourth Revision over a month of changes:
- Was too big, ugly and stupid.
- Was boring, still big, but I started making it have accurate dimensions.
- Was smaller, but still just a dull box for computer stuff.
How To Make: ------------------------------------
Overall size is 350mm square x 120mm high.
The model is too big for my 220mm bed, so I divided the model into 6 pieces.
You will need 4 x 3mm x 15mm screws and glue.
A sheet of acrylic Plexiglass = 2mm thick x 305mm x 325mm.
STL files ‘Fr1’ and 'Fr2' form the screw on front panel of the case.
Files ‘Fr1’ and ‘Fr2’ are split in a better position than ‘Front1’ and 'Front2'
Glue the 2 halves together.
File 'Front12-all' - is the full front with no split. (If you have a bigger printer)
Motherboard 1 and 2 parts get glued together.
It is your option to use part Motherboard 1 =ITX or Motherboard 3 =ATX.
Back 1 and 2 get glued to each other, then glue Back to the Motherboard.
File 'M12B12-all-ITX' is the 4 parts in one file for ITX (If you have a bigger printer)
File 'M32B12-all-ATX' is the 4 parts in one file for ATX (If you have a bigger printer)
- Do Not Glue the Front to the Motherboard parts -
When gluing the parts together pay special care to the grooves on the top side alignment.
Slide the plexiglass sheet through the 3mm channel grooves.
(The 3mm groove in CAD became 2mm grooves IRL printed)
Don't glue the plexiglass.
Then screw the Front panel to the Motherboard parts to secure the plexiglass.
I made 6 x ½ sized prototypes. Now I am printing all 6 pieces of the 4th design at full size.
I am using ‘shimmer’ red PLA filament by Inland from Micro Center. $25.
Dupli-Color Inferno Red auto paint and Krylon clear lacquer for finishing.
82g +58g +218g +210g + ~200g + ~200g = 968g - nearly a whole 1 kg spool.
I will fit the Plexiglass lid on top and screw on the front panel.
$18 for a 450mm x 610mm x 2mm acrylic sheet.
I plan to put life sized pictures of the motherboard and video card inside.
Maybe I will build a system using the Flatpoint Tower case in future, but I don't need a 2nd PC ATM.
