The Shellfish: A Silly-Shell blaster that does it all :)
This is a spring-powered revolver shotgun/grenade launcher styled dart blaster that uses the excellent Silly Shells to fire any ammo you want (even full-length MegaXL)! The ejection toggle switch gives you full control over your shells - eject with every shot, or keep your shells in and reload with loose ammo, and switch between the two with ease.
Printing Guidelines
All shellfish STLs have been exported in their optimal orientation. Print orientation matters, so for your ejector and rotator button parts, double check the guide before printing!
Supports are needed for some parts, and are helpful for others. Check overhangs and apply supports as necessary for your printer! Supports are not included in the models.
I print Shellfishes with 4 walls/floors at 15% infill, all in PLA+ filament. With these settings it uses 1700g of filament
Assembly
The Shellfish is a fairly complex build, but with a comprehensive build and tuning guide its accessible even to newish blaster builders. All tools and hardware required to finish your Shellfish is listed in the guide.
Build Options
In this file set you will find multiple options for:
- Stock Frame - Choose one based on your own preference of stock, or find more in the remixes tab!
- Shell Catch - If your air seal is too weak with the regular shell catch, try the wider tighter catch. It is 0.4mm longer and will hold shells closer to your breech for a tighter air seal (beware of friction! read the guide before installing!)
Power
The Shellfish is a complex blaster, and revolvers are notoriously hard to balance having a strong air seal with smooth rotation. Therefore, the Shellfish has an upper limit of power even with its large plunger volume. On a well-built Shellfish, expect power slightly less than a Battleaxe. On my personal builds I can consistently and powerfully shoot 3x full darts, 4x short darts (in a 2-dart shell), and Mega XL at around 70 FPS. With 6x short darts, 4x full darts, or multiple rival balls, you may experience low or inconsistent firepower.
Acquisition
Along with your printed parts, the hardware for your Shellfish can be purchased from my exclusive distributor BearsWares.
Prebuilt Shellfishes will be available soon!
Update Log
5/27/2025 - 1.2 release! Many fixes implemented: a second ball detent and chamfered drum front makes indexing more reliable. Ejectors are longer, less likely to jam and bottom-out, and have fixed edges to print flat. Multiple shell catch lengths to make tuning more accessible. Plunger vents rotated for better printability. Various tolerances adjusted across the build. Updated and corrected build guide with more comprehensive tuning/FAQ section.
5/21/2025 - Added “experimental” parts to address indexing and rotation issues. I haven't had a chance to build these myself, so let me know if you use them and if they help!
5/3/2025 - Lengthened foot of ejector, renamed original part to “short”. Added wider shell catch piece for a tighter air seal. Updated STEP to 1.11
4/24/2025 - Fixed weird corners on stock panel B
4/23/2025 - Fixed outdated breech cover model that didn't key correctly with trigger guard
