Descrição
This is a quick and easy bracket to print for filament wall shelves! This is a simple wall shelf for filament spools designed to save storage space. The advantages of this design over running a single rod through all spools allow the user to remove any individual spool without having to take other spools off first. The printed mounts are minimally designed to support the dowels while not interfering with the spool organization.
Material tags have also been included to label each shelf according to the materials stored.
Edit 8/12/2023: New Version E and Shape Optimized variants and source files! Version E continues the visual design from previous iterations while the Shape Optimization design offers the highest stiffness at the given volume. Choose your own or use the source files to make a new version.
Edit 4/15/2020: Versions C and D have been updated with increased clearance for the dowels and the ends are now chamfered to allow for easier insertion of the dowels. The information page has also been updated. Version C is the most rigid and stable design while Version D is designed to be able to be printed on machines with a smaller build volume or to use less material.
Instructions
For each shelf print:
- 2+ Filament Shelf Version E
OR - 2+ Filament Shelf Shape Optimization
Other materials:
- 2x 1" wooden dowels (read below regarding choosing lengths)
- 2x #10 screws at 1"-1.5" length per bracket
Assembly:
In order to properly support the weight of filament, ensure the printed brackets are mounted to the wall studs and not just drywall. We use 36" in dowels with with printed brackets 32 in apart, spanning three studs with 16" spacing.
- Locate the studs and mark locations where the printed brackets will be mounted
- Use a level held up to the markings to ensure the shelf will be horizontal and not slanted
- Install each bracket one at a time with the screws
- Slide the dowels through from the ends
- Place spools on top of the dowels or printed mounts
Print Settings
Resolution:
Thick layers, 50-75% nozzle diameter (0.2-0.3 mm for 0.4 mm nozzle). This design prints great with large nozzles.
Perimeters:
3+
Infill:
30%
Material:
We used PETG and but the design should be sufficiently over-engineered enough to even use PLA but PETG or ABS/ASA would work best.
We believe in the 3D printing community.
I have been involved with 3D printing since 2014 and I have developed a deep appreciation for the RepRap movement in that time. There is a significant opportunity created by not only allowing but promoting modification and free use of a technology. Students, mentors, teachers, hobbyists, and creators can use a product and learn about its use and functionality more completely and maximize the potential of it. An idea can only reach its full potential if it is shared openly.
As such, I am committed to give back to the community by publishing designs as open source and by using our technology to help those in need. Please browse our projects on here and other sites soon to come.
