Update 2025/04/24
- added an element for supporting the box bottom when long side panels are used - can be added even multiple times per side if necessary
- added a Version for 9mm (23/64 inch) thick cardboard
From Deliveries I always have a lot of cardboard boxes and not immediate use for them - so I usually cut them to sheets to store them space-saving for later use. With this 3D Model, it is easy to build new, custom-sized Cardboard Boxes from these.
Assembly
The Bottom Part needs to be printed 4 times, as well as the Top Part.
If you have long sides, you may need to add the Side-Support Models. These require a cut in the Cardboard, so the wall that keeps the outer and inner barbs together can slide in.
They are modelled for 5mm (13/64 inch) Cardboard Sheets and have Barbs modelled in, to keep a tight fit when assembled. No Glue needed.
5mm thickness is the maximum they can take - if your Cardboard is a lot thinner, the models might need adjustments or the boards need to be glued in.
The Assembly is shown in the Photos - bevor inserting the Cardboard into the Corners, I squeeze the cardboard a bit to make it easier to fit in.
In the Image you see for the Sides: 4 Sheets of 5mm Cardboard of 14cmx14cm size. For the bottom of the box I've cut a Sheet to 13,5x13,5cm.
As you can see on one Photo, there is a small gap on the bottom - this can be avoided, if you cut the bottom sheet a bit wider and make cut-outs for the walls of the corners. Or simply put some tape from the inside around the bottom. For me, this doesn't matter - I don't keep small things in these.
Printing
I printed these using PLA+ 2.0 on my Elegoo Neptune 4 using a 0.4 Nozzle and 0.2 layer height - no Supports needed. The barbs come out cleaner and might have a stronger grib, if a finer Nozzle or Layer height is used… but these 8 pieces took around 3:30 hours to print already.

Update 24.4.2025
