As a keen wildlife photographer I like to get low to my subjects. Normally I shoot handheld or on a beanbag but sometime I need something more stable. Like many my first ground pod was an old frying pan. But they just rust very quickly. I searched online for suitable designs but they run £70 and upwards and I am too tight to buy one. So 3D print time. I chose to design this as an octagon as the design fits better in my bag than a round unit while providing just as much stability. On a hide shelf it also seems to fit better.
The version photographed uses a 3/8" -16 x 1 ½" allen bolt (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DFLT8NC4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title) through the hole which leaves a nice 10mm of protruding bolt for any standard tripod head to fit. I do not use a nut but I have since slightly enlarged the hexagonal hole at the top to fit a standard nylock nut (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09QVZJH9S?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details) to the design should it be wanted. So far I have not bothered as the bolt fits tight enough to not be lost without.
Best printed in PET-G or any other more temperature and elements resistant material.
Designed to fit printers with a 256*256 or greater print area such as the Prusa XL, Bambu A1 or Elegoo Centauri etc.
