Super low effort solar node using a folding solar panel and a Seeed T1000-E card for Meshtastic. This is a quick model to try out the concept, and works surprisingly well.
Good chance there will be more iterations of this in the future, but throwing up initial design for others to try out and provide feedback. Will end up making it quite a bit stronger and try to keep the simple/small form factor.
This is a simple 25 minute print, recommend PETG. Do not use carbon filaments, they will block radio signals from the card. While the card is waterproof, the USB connections are not. You may be able to get some measure of weatherproofing using dielectric grease in the USB port and around pogo pins, but I haven't tried it and make no guarantees it will live after getting rained on.
Super easy setup: Pop in the card, click the pogo adapter that comes with the card, slide the ears over the opened panel, pull some tension on the cable and wrap it around the panel as pictured and plug into the panel. Mount using the holes in the solar panel with paracord, screws, whatever works for your temporary solar node use case.
Remixes encouraged!
