Descrição
I wanted to make a lithophane of each of my 4 children to put in my wife's stocking this year. I made this frame in blender to hold them. It is printed in translucent PETG, but PLA will work fine.
I printed the frame at 100% infill, because it is translucent, but 20% would be fine with a solid colour.
I made the holder with LED strips to illuminate them for when they are not hung up. It is still rough, but looks okay from the front. I printed it in two parts and had to turn the front sideways to fit my print bed.

Notes:
This is my first time using PETG for anything, so the prints could be better. I printed a lithophane in PLA once before and it turned out a little better. The picture of my oldest son was cropped from too far away, so it is a little grainy. Also plaid is not a good choice for a lithophane.
How I made the lithophanes:
I run Linux, so I use Pinta, but Paint on Windows should be similar.
I have included an oval template for the size.
- Open the picture to edit.
- Scale and/or crop it to approximately 1252x1751 pixels(the size of the oval).
- Open the oval in another instance of Pinta.
- Use wand select to select the inner white oval.
- Invert selection and copy it.
- Paste the copy of the oval over the picture and crop to the size of the selection.
- Save the picture as a jpg
- Open the picture in Cura (I am currently using 4.8). use the following settings:
Height - 2.7mm
Base - 0.3mm
Width - 50mm
Depth - don't change, should be 69.9mm to 70mm
I slide "smoothing" all the way down, but you can leave it where it is. - I printed at 0.05mm layer height and 40mm/s speed at 225C and the fan speed at 50% with white PETG.
