Basic Roll-up Coasters with Storage

This complete beverage coaster set has four coasters, 110mm squared, that roll up into compact, regular geometric shapes: a square, pentagon, hexagon, and octagon. All four shapes have whole-number angles that divide evenly into 360 degrees.

Using a printer pause to place tulle fabric, these coasters can be rolled up and stored in a compact tabletop storage unit that can sit on your table or counter, allowing people to select a coaster whenever needed.

Print Instructions

• Set your layers to 0.2mm
• Add a pause or filament change in your slicer after two layers (between 0.4mm and 0.6mm)
• When the printer pauses, place a piece of tulle fabric (large enough to be anchored, but small enough to fit on the build plate) and anchor it. If you have a steel plate, use magnets. If you have other material, use clips or masking tape.
• Make sure the fabric is not bulging anywhere - you don't want it caught in the nozzle
• Watch the printer carefully when it resumes printing to ensure the nozzle doesn't pull at the fabric
• Once the print is complete, trim the tulle fabric carefully around the coaster's perimeter using good scissors

Recommendations

If you are using PLA, you may not wish to use the coasters with hot mugs.

If you are using a filament that requires a hot bed (over 80C), make sure if you use magnets that they don't lose their magnetism at the higher temperatures.
