Modelo 3D External USB Socket for Mini Enclosure por Trizek no Printables

Descrição

When I put my newly built Prusa enclosure in my office, the USB socket was right behind my chair. The momeny when I would violently knock on the USB stick by accident (and destroy it for sure) was a matter of hours…

I first thought was to keep the USB stick inside of the enclosure, but it wasn't really easy to get the stick when I needed it. I had to put it outside, in a way that matches my needs:

  • getting the USB stick easily,
  • storing the USB stick in a safe place.

I modeled this USB Socket in a way that requires no supports, and not much filament. The make is sturdy enough, though.

This USB Socket is located at the bottom right of the front face of the enclosure. I doesn't block the door.

I printed mine with the PLA I have (I need more Prusameters to get a a spool of Galaxy Black or Orange! :D) but at least you can see how it looks in details.

Mounting process

The terms I use come from the assembly manual.

Adding the USB Socket requires spares that came with the enclosure:

  • one M3x10 screw (or longer)
  • one M3 nut
  • two zip tie
  • 2.5mm Allen key

We will reuse the following parts:

  • The M4x5r screw, added on step 11 of the assembly, located at the bottom right of the front face of the enclosure.
  • The USB extension cable, that came with the enclosure.

Steps to mount the USB Socket:

  1. If already in place, cut the zip ties that maintain the USB extension cable, and remove the extension cable from the enclosure
  2. Remove the M4x5r screw, located at the bottom right of the front face of the enclosure.
  3. Place a M3x10 in the inside hole of the USB Socket. This hole is in front of one of the hexagons
    • Tip: place the screw at the tip of your Allen key to insert the screw.
  4. Locate the hole on the enclosure. We will use the one at the bottom of the right profile.
  5. Mount the USB Socket with the screw on the hole you located
  6. Secure the screw with the nut
  7. Add the M4x5r screw on the second hole, located on the tip of the USB Socket.
  8. Add the USB extension cable in the USB Socket, starting with the USB plug that goes to the printer. Pass the whole extension cable in it and clip the extender part in the USB Socket
  9. Add zip ties inside of enclosure to secure the USB extender (one can be enough to secure the cable, but do not squeeze or stretch the USB extender).

Let me know if the file or the instructions require improvements. :)
