RackMod 1U: Your Devices, Perfectly Arranged with Modular Design
The RackMod Family
RackMod 1U RackMod 1U Slide RackMod 1U 10 Inch RackMod 2U
Description
I love having an organized server rack, so I designed RackMod 1U—a clean, simple, and modular solution for efficient device storage.
The model consists of three main rack parts and customizable modules. Simply 3D print the three main parts and slide them together. Then, choose the modules you need, place them in your desired slots, and slide them in.
Create Your Own Module & Guidelines:
I've uploaded a blank module in a separate model where you are free to remix your own modules.
RackMod 1U Blank Module by talving - MakerWorld
I created this model with the hope of establishing a standard that others could create modules for. So, if you create your own module, please upload it! Use the naming scheme “RackMod 1U Module XXXXXX” so it's easy for other users to find a module that fits them!
With this rack design you can:
- Clean and Organized Setup: Keeps your server rack tidy and professional, making it easier to manage and access devices.
- Modular Design: Offers flexibility to customize slots for specific devices, ensuring an efficient use of space.
- Easy Assembly: Simple slide-and-fit assembly makes it beginner-friendly and saves time.
- Future-Proof: Easily reuse the rack by printing new modules for updated or additional devices.
- Cost-Effective: Avoid expensive off-the-shelf solutions by 3D printing your own.
- Customizable: Tailor the design to your needs—perfect for unique setups or special equipment dimensions.

FAQ
- Is RackMod 1U Slide and RackMod 1U the same size?
Yes, RackMod 1U is using the same size modules but instead slides the modules in from the front. This makes it so minimal changes to a module can make it work with both RackMod 1U & 1U Slide.
- How long does it take to print?
Each main part takes approximately 2 hours and uses around 80–85g of filament.
Modules vary depending on the design but typically take 1–3 hours to print.
- Will more modules be added?
Absolutely! Many more modules are planned for the future.
- I need a custom module for a device. What should I do?
You can use the Blank Module as a template to design a custom module for your device. If you’re not experienced with 3D modeling, try reaching out on forums—someone in the community might be able to help. Alternatively, leave a comment here with the details, and I’ll consider adding it to my list of future modules.
- What filament should I use?
I’ve been using BambuLab’s Basic Matte PLA, and the results have been fantastic.
- It’s made out of plastic—will it hold?
From my testing, I haven’t encountered any issues with breakage. However, keep in mind that since it’s a 3D print, it may not support very heavy devices.
- Will RackMod 1U continue to receive new modules now that RackMod 1U Slide is released?
Yes! I’ll be creating modules for both RackMod 1U and RackMod 1U Slide, as each design has its own strengths and use cases.
