Yet another version of an insert for Bambulab reusable spools.

Why design a new one? I wanted a design that I can use to store leftovers with a small footprint and that can be used to hot-swap the insert while there is still some filament left on the spool. This works very well up to ~250g of filament on the insert; 500g or more are likely to cause a mess, and you are probably better off printing/using or combining with a hot swappable spool (like here).  

The insert combines features i have seen on some other models:

• Tangential holes holding the filament while re-spooling and releasing it once the spool is empty
• Threaded profile for a nice first layer
• Angled rim to hold filament in place (at least a bit, up to ~250g) while hot-swapping
• Notches for (reusable) cable ties to securely store without a spool.

I planned to insert (reusable) cable ties of ~30cm length before re-spooling and leave them on until swapping the spool. This should work, but I only got 40cm ties which are too long and stick out of rims of the spool. I now mostly use it with self retaining filament clips (like these).

If you plan to use the insert in a dryer, remember to print in some material that can withstand heat (PETG, ABS, …).
