martin.taichl made such an amazing model of the Stargate with an iris but like many others I found it not usable. It was soooooooo close but everything was breaking, not fitting, and not functional. It's like he took it to 99% and then didn't quite finish.

So I tried to take it closer to 100% by making these changes:

• Modified the tolerances of all holes to allow pegs to be inserted
• Modified some internal pieces to fit better 
• Separated some blended pieces to print independently
• Added necessary supports to fix printing issues
• Rearranged everything to be printable on 4 plates
• Rearranged all iris fins to print the same orientation (to reduce minor printing variations between fins which mess with functionality)
• Did a little easy painting to make it a 2 color model. I think it looks great

Warning! - Although it now will all fit together and it does function (big improvement), it is still NOT easy to operate. You need to be careful, push on 2 rotation pegs at a time, and alternate between pushing on the rotation pegs to get it to open and close. It is still ridiculously satisfying but go in with a realistic expectation that you won't be using this as easy open & close fidget toy.

Maybe somebody else can take the torch now and make it even smoother than I could, but now it works at least :)

Pro Tips:

• For smoothest operation, take some very fine sandpaper and smooth out any uneven points/ridges on the iris fins before assembling. From tip to about 50% down it's length is the most important area. Any tiny imperfection will cause them to drag and tangle up a bit so smoother = better. Its MUCH easier to do this before assembly. 
• I did all of this on textured pei plate but in hindsight it might have been better to use smooth. I was all done all this before that obvious fact hit me, maybe don't make the same mistake. It might work much better printed smoothly. 

If you like the model, go give martin.taichl a boost since he put so much work into this amazing creation. My contribution by comparison was very small.
