Christmas Tree – Made of Modular Star-Shaped Rings

This innovative Christmas tree model features a modular structure made up of 26 star-shaped rings. When stacked, these rings create a tree approximately 65 cm* in height (*due to the 2 mm deep stacking notches it is a little smaller than the intended height of 70 cm). Each ring has a height of 2.593 cm, except for the top ring, which has a height of 5.185 cm to form the perfect tree topper. The bottom ring has a diameter of 25 cm, with each successive ring slightly decreasing in size, giving the tree a tapered appearance.

I printed the rings with fuzzy skin setting, which slightly mimics the natural organic texture of tree layers and enhances the overall aesthetic of the model. The star shape of each ring leaves gaps between the alternating layers, providing the perfect spaces to attach festive decorations such as ornaments, Christmas lights, or small baubles, allowing you to customize the tree to your liking.

The modular design means you can adjust the tree's height by stacking the rings as desired. The rings slot together easily, making the assembly process simple and quick. This 3D-printed tree design is perfect for those looking to create a personalized, modern Christmas decoration with the ability to add their own custom details. Thanks to the stacking design, this Christmas tree requires minimal storage space when not in use.

Customize my Christmas Tree Model
I also provided the Fusion 360 file of the completely parametric christmas tree model. All of the favorites on the parameters table except for „rings_count“ and may be modified. „SEGMENT“ will also only be modified only to switch through the different layer models, not to customize anything.
Which means you can modify the desired height of the rings and the whole tree (the height you choose doesn’t take into account the stacking notches, so the final tree will be smaller by the number of rings times the depth of the notches, which is 2.5mm by default). You may also modify the bottom ring diameter (which shouldn’t exceed your printer’s build volume), the amount of ring-layers, the thickness of the rings and the amount of edges of the star-shaped polygon which the tree shape is based on (I recommend 5 to 10 polygon corners).

After you modified all above given user-parameters to your liking you need to export every ring separately. To get all separate rings for your final 3D print you should modify the parameter „SEGMENT“ first to match the calculated parameter „ring_count“ (don’t change the equation for that parameter!). Export that ring. Then keep going by lowering the parameter „SEGMENT“ by 1 and exporting the resulting ring as printable file UNTIL you hit Segment 2. Segment 1 would be the tree top which wasn’t possible for me to design as a parametric ring, so i built the top in that Fusion 360 file next to the ring model. If you chose a rather small ring height like I did (4 cm or smaller) I advise you to NOT print Segment 2 and the top separate. Instead I would export all Segments from the biggest one to number 3 and then change the parameter „ring_height“ to double the size than the one you exported the rings with before. Then you only need to export the tree top which is now a merged version of Segment 2 and the top. This prevents the top stacking mechanism from becoming too small to be sturdy enough.
