Modelo 3D 74 Randomly generated lamp forms using OpenSCAD por DKiefer770 no MakerWorld

Descrição

These are 74 samples of what can be created with some very complex OpenSCAD customizers I have developed over the last few years. Included are photos of some of the many lamps I have created with these. These fall into 3 basic design variants:

  1. Cube is a column of randomly generated cubes.
  2. Hex is a column of randomly generated hexagonal prisms.
  3. Wide is like cube, but designed for ceiling or wall mount, rather than a pedestal.

These all have many different configuration settings (see screenshots) for:

  • Overall dimensions (approximate)
  • Number of sizes of cubes or hexagonal prisms, and the number of each (randomly generated) size
  • Truncation/Beveling of edges (random)
  • Rotation of individual elements (random)
  • Internal hollows for lighting (to specific dimensions)
  • Etc.

There is an exotic “Hollow” setting that turns each element into a hollow solid, then merges that with the main body, creating a very complex interior structure. I have found that only very basic forms that use this setting can be sliced, but the result is amazing once printed. Be sure to look at the sample STLs to see if they are a single hollow form or have these internal structures.

These samples can be resized as needed to print the output you want. I will work with purchasers if necessary to generate up to 10 additional STL files to your dimensional specifications. Note that some combinations of settings require hours to generate from OpenSCAD, and slicing can take many hours as well. Some of these larger (1M+) lamps required over a month of printing….

I printed some with clear PLA, but the color is not consistent, so I have found that PET is more consistent. You can also get some very cool effects with clear colors.

The clear one with blue "veins" was an attempt to add multiple colors through merged STL files. The results were nice, but I had a lot of difficult with the IDEX printer I bought, which turned out to be junk. (I am open to suggestions for reliable multi-color printers….)

I also designed and built a 1 meter tall custom printer, which works well, but the size of the gcode files with the more advanced settings (over 1G) proved too much for current hardware. (Anyone up for a challenge?)

Because of the difficulty in printing very tall structures, I have included FreeCAD “Slicers” that are used to slice a very tall model into smaller pieces that are printed individually. (See, e.g., Tall Square 15, but this may be obsolete in newer slicers or not needed based on the size of your final print and the capacity of your machine.)

There are a lot of things you can do with slicing settings to create different effects internally, as shown in the pictures. I am happy to assist as needed if you have questions, or provide suggestions for different ways to achieve different effects.

For internal lighting I used 15W E12 LED Corn Bulbs on custom printed diffusers (also randomly generated) designed to slide on a steel rod mounted to the base. These diffusers also hide the wiring internally. The lighting assembly is mounted to a walnut base, and enclosed in a 4" diameter acrylic tube, which is also inset into the base, and which slides into the (assembled if necessary) print. This makes the final product very strong and solid. For multi-piece prints, I find that clear silicone glue works best. I can provide details of the components I use on request.

Note that the OpenSCAD source files are not included in this set. They are complicated to use, and generation of complex models is time-consuming, and the output is not always printable, and sometimes not sliceable. If you are interested in the source files, please reach out to me and we can discuss what you have in mind, and possible licensing.

If you are interested in purchasing custom lamps to your specifications, I would also love to hear from you!
